Pinecone Research, Panel Champ

The National Consumer Panel is an established company backed by two research powers, NielsenIQ and IRI. The NCP is a "mini-USA", representing millions of Americans. Since 1987 (originally as Nielsen Homescan, then in 2010 as National Consumer Panel), the NCP has been gathering panel member's opinions and shopping data to help manufacturers and retailers make informed decisions on what products to develop, improve or sell in the market.

The NCP panel gives panelists the opportunity to earn rewards from a fun and simple process, simply by scanning barcodes of the items they buy every week! You could change the face of your favorite brands or improve your shopping experience by becoming a member.

Payment and Rewards

Sign Up for Your Spot

Being immediately accepted into the program is not guaranteed because acceptance is based upon if/when there is an opening or a need for specific household demographics, so availability does vary. To sign up for NCP, simply click the green 'join now' buttons on this page to apply for a position.

Rewards for Participating

Earn points for sending your shopping data each week and for answering surveys. NCPMobile participants can redeem their points towards gift cards including: AMC, Amazon, Apple, Delta, Fandango, Google Play, Groupon, Spotify, Uber as well as for Vanilla Visa cards.

Participants with hand-held scanners can access NCP's online gift catalog that contains a wide variety of name-brand merchandise including electronics, home appliances, sporting goods, toys and more!

Earn More Rewards

New NCP panel members earn reward points for registration and reporting their first shopping trip. In addition, panel members earn 250 reward points for birthdays, 1,000 bonus points on their 6-month anniversary and 1,000 bonus points on their 1-year anniversary (and each year after that). Other seasonal and ad-hoc promotions can earn panel members additional reward points depending on their participation.

Participant Experience

Scan Your Purchases with the National Consumer Panel App

As a new member of NCP, you will receive access to NCPMobile, their exclusive mobile app for scanning and reporting your shopping trip details (available in iOS and Android). Use the app to scan the barcodes on your weekly purchases and earn rewards for your participation. You can also provide information on non-barcoded items you purchase (such as fruit and vegetables, baked goods, gas, prescriptions, etc.) using the app. You may be asked to provide additional information on a shopping trip, including the store you went to, if you used a club card, etc. Sharing this level of detail will help the product makers and retailers that are responsible for the products you love to purchase and is easily done so using the interface.

Earn Reward Points!

Points are largely earned by scanning your weekly purchases. You'll start by getting 150 points each week NCP receives your shopping data. The weekly amount of points increases the longer you are on the panel. With opportunities to earn additional points by answering surveys, special NCP promotions, specialty panels, etc., points can add up quickly. Gift offerings begin at 5,000 points.

Another 10 year waste of time.

July 28, 2015 by John from United States

I could not agree more with Jennifer who just posted on 7/1/15. I too am a 10 year veteran of NCP. There was always the enjoyment of scanning my products to let the vendors know what we're buying as well as the surveys that we took to give the vendors more insight. However after being let down several times when I reached the right amount of points for a gift, it would be GONE. This past year was the breaking point. A new catalog was suppose to come out the first of the year. It was put off month after month. There was anticipation that there were going to be bigger and better gifts. Finally after several months, the new gift catalog was posted. It was by far the worse ever. There were just over 100 items. It was 50% brand name items and 50% off brand items. I still have my 2005 gift catalog (paperback) and it has close to 200 items all from well-known brands. Don't anyone dare call me petty because these vendors are getting a load of information from what we supply and I'm sure paying NCP very well to collect this data. Our time is worth more than what came out in the last catalog. One more item; In all my years on the panel I was never able to collect 8000 points over a 3 month period doing all the surveys along with the weekly drug survey as well as doing the scanning every week.

A Lot of Work for very little.

I have been with NCP for 10 years now and it is time I left. In all of that time what I was able to get from the gift catalog was definitely not worth it. If they had kept a decent hand scanner for those of us who do not need nor use a smart phone it would have been better. BUT, they changed their scanner and it has crashed my computer three times now, I have called this in and I get calls back from furniture stores, and all types of different places in another state that are the people they have to help you with this. The calls never show up as NCP or anything close. That seems shady to me now as it use to come up with their name. I have not been able to get anything resolved properly and have to explain what is going on every time they call back to a different person than before and they have no notes and no idea, just ask me to go through the same hoops that the other three did previously. I have heard that the smartphone users have it pretty easy now, but I am not going to spend $50 or more a month just to be able to scan items for them with nothing to look forward to. I have never won any of the sweepstakes in the 10 years either. Others are winning and it is randomly picked, so it doesn't matter how hard you work for them scanning, the chances of winning are very very slim. And the gifts in the catalog that they have now are junk. I had to use up my 200,000 points on a selection of items that I had hoped would make gifts, and they did arrive fast, but not gift worthy. They other couple of items I have chosen over all of these years have all broken also. I never did get what I wanted, by the time I had the points to get the item I really wanted, they didn't offer it anymore. If you have nothing better to do and have a smart phone, you might like this, but I am once again without my laptop and lucky that I had a chrome book to get online with thanks to their scanner that you have to send through your computer instead of the phone now. I would not recommend this to anyone anymore, and I did use to enjoy it a couple of years back. When customer service was there and they had items you wanted to try for.

I have been a member of this panel for a few years and I love the benefits and prizes you can earn. I especially like the discount I get off for my AT&T cell phone bill and the products that you're able to get as rewards.

Easy, but points accrue slowly

May 15, 2015 by Ally from United States

I've been a member for 3 months now and have about 8,000 points. Most 'desirable items' are over 20,000 points - Amazon gift cards, etc.

I see others mention scanning equipment - that must be for those without smart phones? - because I scan with my iPhone and probably spend 20-30 minutes a week as a member.

It's easy enough and credible, but the points do accrue slowly. It would be nice if they added more perks though, especially given the time it takes on a regular basis to scan purchases, etc.

great company

i have just received my 1,000 anniversary points for 21 years on the panel. I have earned so many great prizes-the last being a small tv/dvd combo. One time I won $500 cash in a sweepstakes. it takes about 10 minutes a week to do it. The hand held devise was sometimes difficult to transmit, but now that I have the app on my ipad, it is a breeze. I have really enjoyed being on this panel all these years and my prizes are too numerous to mention.
